My name is Griffin Williams. I am 22 years old and from Utah. I started using the alias 'rainyneptunus' around September 2006 when I couldn't think of a name for my new deviant art account. I chose rainyneptunus becuase of my fascination with the planet Neptune. The rainy part comes from one of my favorite songs (that and it supposedly rains diamonds in Neptune's atmosphere). Perhaps someday I'll come up with a new 'alias' or just defer to using my real name for my photography. Some of my general interests and hobbies include art, music, school, my tight circle of close friends, meeting new and interesting people, reading, free writing, photographing/photoshopping, learning new things about the world around me, roller coasters, video games, biking, being outdoors, the internet, science/astronomy, and thinking (just to name a few).

Photography
I own a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi and 50mm f/1.8, 15mm f/2.8 fisheye, and 17-40mm f/4 lenses. I am mostly self-taught and do not really consider myself and 'artist' but more so a hobbyist who can crank out something worthwhile when I get lucky. Maybe I'm just being modest but I'll leave that up to you to decide. I use Photoshop to edit most of my photos. My editing can vary from very minor touch-ups to drastic photomanipulations and are often the result of expirimentation. My collection of images, like most things in life, is a work-in-progress and something I will hopefully spend a great deal of my life bettering myself at. To me, one of the worst things I can do as an intelligent being is forget. Our memories, feelings, and experiences have meaning because of our ability to remember and retain them. For me and no doubt others, photography can have the power to retain these things. So often I will see a picture and recall a feeling or experience that I would have otherwise forgotten.

Utah
Utah is a truly gorgeous place and I am so greatful for that. However, when I am not distracted by the scenery, the fact of the matter is that the vast majority of the people in my community are severely lacking when it comes to diversity and to accepting those who differ from them. It makes it especially hard for people like me and minorities. I plan on moving to a more 'live and let live' environment when I am able to do so. Spending my entire life in the Happy Valley Bubble sounds very limiting to me. With that said, I do love this place. There are lots of amazing people here (they're just hard to find). I do love the nature and Utah is huge and full of diverse natural wonders. There is so much to do in nature away from people just minutes away from where I live. It will also always be "home" and I will definitely travel back her as often as I can once I do finally move away. Utah holds opportunity for so many, but I feel this just isn't the place for me.
